Ingredients You Will Need to Prepare the Large Family Instant Pot Collard Greens with Ham

You will need a handful of essential ingredients to prepare your Large Family Instant Pot Collard Greens with Ham, including:

  • Bacon. Slice your bacon down into pieces before using it in this dish.
  • Cubed Ham. Cut your ham into cubes to add flavor to the collard greens. Try making ham in the instant pot and using leftover pieces or bone for this recipe.
  • Chopped Collards. You cannot have this delicious dish without the collards. Make sure to get the triple-washed ones.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar. A little bit of apple cider vinegar adds an acidic touch to the dish without taking away from its natural smoky taste.
  • Brown Sugar. The brown sugar adds a hint of sweetness to the dish.
  • Chicken Broth. You will add your collards, ham, bacon, and other ingredients to the chicken broth to keep them moist and flavorful. Make chicken in the instant pot and use the broth.

You will also need to have diced onion, crushed red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper to complete the meal.

Description

Cook the perfect side dish to go along with some of your favorite entrees. The Large Family Instant Pot Collard Greens with Ham recipe will leave you with the most flavorful greens you have ever tasted!

Ingredients

  • 4 slices bacon, sliced into pieces
  • 2 pounds ham, cubed
  • 1 onion, diced
  • ¾ cup chicken broth
  • ⅓ cup apple cider vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar (or brown sugar substitute)
  • ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 (2 pound) bag triple-rinsed chopped collards

Instructions

  1. Prepare the electric pressure cooker by setting the “saute” function. When the pressure cooker reads “hot,” add the bacon, ham, and onion. Cook, stirring often, for 5 to 6 minutes or until the onion is softened.

  2. Deglaze the bottom of the electric pressure cooker pot by adding the chicken broth and scraping the bottom with a wooden spoon.

  3. Add the vinegar, brown sugar, and seasonings to the meat and chicken broth. Stir to combine.

  4. Top the meat broth with the collard greens. Pack in tightly to fit. (If using a smaller electric pressure cooker, allow the collards to cook uncovered on the saute function until all of the collard greens fit.)

  5. Cover the electric pressure cooker, setting the valve to sealing, and program on the “manual” or “pressure cook” function for 6 minutes.

  6. When the cook cycle is complete, allow the pressure cooker to naturally release the pressure for 5 minutes before using a quick release to allow the remaining pressure to escape.

  7. Remove the lid and stir the contents.

Notes

This recipe uses an 8 quart electric pressure cooker.
