The Ingredients You Will Need For The Big Family Slow Cooker Turkey Meatball Stroganoff

Before getting started, check your pantry to make sure you have all the ingredients needed to make the Big Family Slow Cooker Turkey Meatball Stroganoff. You will need to grab the following items: (You might also want to check out my favorite kitchen supplies list.)

  • Lean Ground Turkey. You will use lean ground turkey to prepare the meatballs for this dish.
  • Bread Crumbs. Adding the bread crumbs to your lean ground turkey makes it easier to roll the meat into balls and gives it more flavor.
  • Baby Bella Mushrooms. Stroganoff typically contains mushrooms, and this dish is no different. Use baby Bella mushrooms to add to this meal.
  • Tomato Paste. Use tomato paste as a base for the sauce.
  • Beef Granules. The beef granules make this dish taste even meatier.

Along with these ingredients, you will need several others, such as all-purpose flour, olive oil, dried thyme leaves, Worcestershire sauce, eggs, onion, parsley, milk, paprika, salt, pepper, water, and sour cream. You may also want to add this meal to your weekly meal plan. We also have lots of meals to feed a large family.

How to Store the Turkey Meatball Stroganoff

If you want to make the dish ahead, you can do that and then put it in the fridge. You can wait until the food cools down a bit and then pour the slow cooker’s contents into a large food storage container. Then store it there as leftovers for up to four days.

What to Add to the Slow Cooker Turkey Meatball Stroganoff Recipe

You may want to add additional ingredients to your Slow Cooker Turkey Meatball Stroganoff. Adding vegetables to the dish is a great idea. Some of the best vegetables to use include corn, peas, diced broccoli, and diced carrots.

Besides adding vegetables to the mix, you can also add some cream cheese to the meal to add a cheesy taste while giving the stroganoff a creamier consistency. You might also want to add some additional spices to your turkey meatballs, but it all depends on your preference.

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil, divided
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 3 pounds lean ground turkey
  • ⅔ cups bread crumbs
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • ½ cup chopped parsley
  • ⅓ cup milk
  • ¼ teaspoon dried thyme leaves
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 ½ cups water
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon all purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon beef granules
  • 1 (16 ounce) package sliced baby bella mushrooms

  1. In a large (12 inch) skillet over medium-high heat, add 1 tablespoon olive oil. Place the onions in the skillet and cook until softened, about 2 to 3 minutes. Divide the onions in half.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the half of the sauteed onions with the ground turkey, bread crumbs, eggs, 2 tablespoons of the parsley, milk, salt, and black pepper.  Mix until just combined.

  3. Using a 1 tablespoon cookie scoop, portion the meat mixture and roll into balls.

  4. Reheat the skillet over medium-high heat until hot. Add 1 tablespoon olive oil and then part of the meatballs, browning on all sides. It is not necessary to cook the meatballs all the way through. Transfer the meatballs to the slow cooker and continue browning the remaining meatballs in the remaining olive oil until they are all browned.

  5. Whisk together the water, sour cream, flour, tomato paste, bouillon, Worcestershire sauce, and paprika, beating until smooth.

  6. Sprinkle the remaining onion over the meatballs. Top with the mushrooms.

  7. Pour the sauce over the meatballs and mushrooms.

  8. Cover and cook on low for 4 to 6 hours.

  9. Gently toss the meatballs in the gravy. Sprinkle with chopped parsley and serve over egg noodles or mashed potatoes.
