Must-Have Ingredients to Prepare the Large Family Bacon and Grits Casserole

When making the Large Family Bacon and Grits Casserole, there are a few essential ingredients to have, such as:

  • Quick Cooking Grits. Use the quick-cooking grits to make this dish even easier to make.
  • Bacon. Cook your bacon beforehand, and then chop it down into small pieces that you will add to the casserole.
  • Shredded Gouda Cheese. The gouda cheese offers a smoky cheese taste that goes great with grits and bacon.
  • Shredded Cheddar Cheese. Like the gouda, cheddar cheese is an excellent addition to this casserole.
  • Melted Butter. Using melted butter is the perfect way to enhance the taste of the grits in this casserole.

Along with these ingredients, make sure you have water, salt, pepper, eggs, and milk available to use to create the Large Family Bacon and Grits Casserole.

Description

Create a wholesome breakfast for the entire family with this recipe for the Large Family Bacon and Grits Casserole. It combines multiple breakfast favorites in one dish that is sure to get you ready to start your day!

Ingredients

  • 6 cups water
  • 2 cup quick cooking grits
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt, divided
  • 2 (24 ounce) packages bacon, cooked, drained, and chopped
  • 1 (8 ounce) package gouda cheese, shredded
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 6 large eggs
  • 3 cups milk
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted
  • Black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and prepare two 9×13 inch baking dishes with nonstick cooking spray.

  2. Place the water and ½ teaspoon salt in a saucepan and bring to a boil over high heat. Slowly whisk in the grits. Reduce the heat to low; cover and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  3. Beat the eggs and milk together; set aside.

  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine the grits, bacon, and cheese (reserving some cheese to sprinkle on top.) Add the butter, black pepper, and remaining salt, stirring everything together until well blended.

  5. Divide and pour into the prepared baking dishes. Sprinkle with the remaining cheese.

  6. Bake, uncovered, for about 1 hour or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.  Let stand for 5 minutes before cutting.

  7. To freeze, bake the casseroles and allow to cool. Freeze tightly wrapped casseroles in the dishes or slice into portions and wrap individually in plastic wrap before pacing in an airtight freezer container.
