The Ingredients Needed to Make the Large Family Easy Slow Cooker Ham and Bone Soup

Grab these ingredients from your local grocery store to prepare the Large Family Easy Slow Cooker Ham and Bone Soup:

  • Meaty Ham Bone. Find a ham bone with lots of extra meat attached to give your soup more flavor. I like to reserve the hambone from making ham in the Instant Pot and use it for this recipe.
  • Potatoes. Chop your potatoes into small pieces before tossing them into the slow cooker with the ham bone.
  • Carrots. Slice down several carrots to add to your slow cooker.
  • Chicken Broth. Use chicken broth as the base for the soup. If you do not have chicken broth, you can use water by itself or with powdered bouillon. Make this whole chicken and use the bone broth for this recipe.
  • Garlic Powder. The garlic powder brings more flavor to the dish to make each bite taste even better.

Other ingredients to get for the soup include cannellini beans, bay leaves, thyme leaves, and black pepper.

How to Freeze and Store Your Ham and Bone Soup

Make large batches of the Large Family Easy Slow Cooker Ham and Bone Soup as often as you would like because you can store and save some for lengthy periods. If you keep the soup in your refrigerator, it will stay suitable for up to five days. However, you can freeze it. When you freeze the soup, it stays fresh for three months at a time. If you have the soup in your freezer, you can always pull it out the night before, leave it in the fridge to thaw out, and then heat it in the microwave or on the stovetop. Always put your soup in a large container with an airtight lid before storing it anywhere.

Description

Are you craving a savory and soothing meal with a slightly smoky flavor? The Large Family Easy Slow Cooker Ham and Bone Soup is just what you need! Eat it for lunch, dinner, or even a snack when you want something light and good for you.

 


Ingredients

 

  • 1 meaty ham bone
  • 3 potatoes, diced
  • 2 cups carrots, sliced
  • 2 small onions, diced
  • 2 (15 ounce) cans cannellini beans, drained and rinsed
  • 8 cups chicken broth or water
  • 2 bay leaves
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon thyme leaves
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

 


Instructions

  1. Combine all of the ingredients in a large slow cooker. Stir everything around the hambone to combine.

  2. Place the lid on the slow cooker and cook on low for 9 to 10 hours or cook on the high setting for 4 to 6 hours.

  3. Before serving, remove the hambone and bay leaves. Remove the meat from the bone, cut the meat into bite size pieces, and return to the soup.  

 

 


Notes

Freezer Tip:   Cool the cooked soup and place in freezer safe bags or airtight containers for up to 3 months.  To prepare: For best results, thaw the soup in the refrigerator overnight. Warm in a stockpot over medium heat on the stovetop or in the microwave.
