Low Carb Hamburger Steaks and Mushroom Gravy
Low Carb Hamburger Steaks and Mushroom Gravy. Did I just use “low carb” and hamburger and gravy in the same title?! Why, yes I did! Your family will love this dinner and you will love the lower carbs! Pair it with a low carb side dish and dessert and you are good to go for a simple and mouth-watering dinner!
Preparing Low Carb Hamburger Steaks and Mushroom Gravy
Get out your large mixing bowl. Go ahead, I’ll wait while you wrangle it out from the cabinet. Oh, you don’t feel like you just wrestled a herd of cats after getting yours? You don’t know what your missing! Throw the ground beef, eggs, dry seasonings, and onions.
Wash your hands, and remove your rings. Alternately, you wear gloves for this next step. Using your hands, mix together all the ingredients in the bowl. The easiest way to do this is with your hands. Really work it all in together until it’s thoroughly combined. Divide the meat mixture into 16 equal portions then press into patties.
Grab your cast iron skillet or your funky old pan. If using cast iron, heat the pan to prime it, adding olive oil to coat. Brown patties on one side about 5 minutes. Flip and continue cooking until done. Remove from pan and cook warm while you cook the rest.
Let’s make the gravy now. It’s really the addition to this meal that puts it over the top. Without gravy, all you have is a whole plate of hamburgers. That will not get your raves at the table. Trust me on this one.
Carefully remove all but 2 tablespoons of hot grease from pan. Careful is the key word here. No injuries allowed. Add the beef broth and mushrooms. Use a spoon to deglaze the bottom of pan. Scrape off all the good bits to make your gravy crazy good. Bring to a simmer and cook until mushrooms are softened. Stir in the sour cream. If you’d like thicker gravy you can stir in a tablespoon of Xantham Gum during the end of the process.

At this point, you can do a couple of things to serve it. You can pour over the hamburger steaks on the plate. You can put in a bowl and let everyone serve themselves. You can keep it all for yourself which I am sorely tempted to do every time I make this recipe. Keep it low carb and serve with mashed cauliflower or riced cauliflower. For the not watching their carbs people, mashed or twice baked potatoes are the way to go.
