Ingredients

  • 3 sweet onions sliced
  • 1 16 ounce package sliced mushrooms
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 pounds ground beef
  • 1 yellow onion grated
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons dijon mustard
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 packets brown gravy mix with the ingredients to make gravy
  •

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Prepare two large baking sheets with aluminum foil and grease with olive oil or spray with nonstick cooking spray.
  • On the baking sheets, spread the onions and mushrooms. Drizzle with olive oil. Season as desired and toss to evenly coat. Re-spread the vegetables into an even layer.
  • In a small bowl, combine the bread crumbs and milk, stirring to combine. Set aside for 5 minutes to allow the bread crumbs to absorb the milk.
  • In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, grated onion, soaked breadcrumbs, worcestershire sauce, dijon mustard, eggs, black pepper, and salt. Divide into fifteen patties.
  • Place the patties over the onions and mushrooms.
  • Bake for 25 minutes.
  • While the hamburger steaks cook, prepare the gravy packets according to the package directions.
  • When the steaks have cooked, carefully remove the pans from the oven and pour the gravy over the sheet pans. Set the oven to broil. Return the pans to the oven and watch carefully, broiling for 5 to 8 minutes or until the onions have begun to soften.
  • Serve over mashed potatoes or rice.
