Want to make an unforgettable breakfast meal for the entire family? Prepare this Large Family Grits and Sausage Casserole that will impress your loved ones and leave them craving even more of it.

 


Ingredients

  • 6 cups water
  • 2 cup quick-cooking grits
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon salt, divided
  • 4 pounds pork sausage, cooked and drained
  • 4 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • 6 large eggs
  • 3 cups milk
  • 4 tablespoon butter, melted
  • Black pepper to taste

 


Instructions

 

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and prepare two 9×13 inch baking dishes with nonstick cooking spray.

  2. Place the water and 1 teaspoon salt in a saucepan and bring to a boil over high heat. Slowly whisk in the grits. Reduce the heat to low; cover and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  3. Beat the eggs and milk together; set aside.  

  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine the grits, sausage, and 3 cups cheese.   Combine the eggs and grits mixture.  Add the butter, black pepper, and remaining salt. Pour into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle with remaining cheese.

  5. Bake uncovered for about 1 hour or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.  Let stand for 5 minutes before cutting.
