INSTANT POT VS SLOW COOKER YOGURT
Which is better? Making homemade yogurt in the Instant Pot or making homemade yogurt in the slow cooker? I make homemade yogurt both ways. Today I’m sharing my thoughts on both homemade yogurt making methods!
My large family adores yogurt. This mama can’t keep it in the house for very long. I make it at home using both my Instant Pot and/or my slow cooker. The weekend I was home alone for 48 hours with 5 kids under 10, I decided to make both to compare which one works better. Let’s look at what I think is the comparison between Instant Pot and slow cooker yogurt.
Is Instant Pot better than slow cooker?
Unless you need it faster then they are equal. They cook, you add yogurt, they cook some more. There are faster steps needed for the Instant Pot so you will need to be in or near the kitchen until you get to the step where you are growing cultures.
The homemade yogurt tastes the same regardless of which method you use. Seriously the only advantage the Instant Pot has here is that it cooks faster.
Are Instant Pot and Slow Cooker recipes the same?
Exactly the same. The steps happen quicker in the Instant Pot but it’s the same steps and ingredients regardless of which homemade yogurt method you’re using. There is no comparison between Instant Pot and slow cooker yogurt here. It’s truly whichever yogurt method is easiest for you at the time.
How are Instant Pot and Slow Cooker Yogurt Different
Cooking time is vastly different, 8 hours for the Instant Pot versus 12 hours in the slow cooker.
There are more steps involved quicker in the Instant Pot yogurt version requiring you to be in the kitchen and paying attention or at least close by.
The slow cooker yogurt version has many steps where it just sits for hours not needing you to do anything. I usually end up going with Slow Cooker yogurt because I’m lazy like that 🙂
Most large families have more than one slow cooker meaning you can make multiple batches at once. This is not usually the case for Instant Pots.
Which one do I like best?
Honestly, each one has it’s benefits and drawbacks. I like to make yogurt in the slow cooker if I’m going to be outside of the house often for a day. There are several steps where Crockpot yogurt sits for several hours. The longer in-between fooling with whatever I’m cooking the better for me, ha!
However, there are also days where I just don’t get out of the kitchen much, or I know I’ll buzz back through shortly, and those are days I use the Instant Pot to make yogurt.
