Sweet Potato Biscuits

Your children will love these biscuits and prefer having them over traditional biscuits. They will love that they can dip their biscuits into their sauce or add their favorite toppings to them, such as shredded cheese or butter. If you want to have something to serve as an appetizer before your main meal, prepare these Sweet Potato Biscuits. You will love them!

The Ingredients Used to Make Sweet Potato Biscuits

It all starts with the sweet potatoes. When making these biscuits, you need to have several sweet potatoes chopped and ready to boil. Along with fresh sweet potatoes, other ingredients that you will need to have to make these biscuits include flour, sugar, baking powder, and butter. You may already have these ingredients in your pantry, especially if you like baking. Honestly, that is another great thing about this recipe. You do not need to go out and buy a bunch of ingredients just to make them.

What to Put on Your Sweet Potato Biscuits

Not sure what to put on your Sweet Potato Biscuits? I have quite a few good ideas for you. I love adding cinnamon butter to these biscuits. It tastes a lot like sweet potato pie, one of my favorite pies of all time. While cinnamon butter is excellent on the Sweet Potato Biscuits, you can use traditional butter that will quickly melt while adding even more flavor. Other great options to add to these biscuits include honey, jam, and your favorite gravy.

How to Store the Sweet Potato Biscuits to Keep Them Fresh

If you make a batch of Sweet Potato Biscuits and have some left, place them in a large sealable food storage bag, remove all the excess air, and close the bag tightly before putting it in the fridge. The biscuits should remain good enough to eat for up to five days. When you want them to last longer, simply put them in the freezer instead of the fridge. You can leave the biscuits in the freezer for as long as two months before pulling them out, giving them time to thaw out, and then microwaving them when you want to have some warm and delicious biscuits.

Description

When you want to have the perfect appetizer to go with your favorite family meals, these Sweet Potato Biscuits are ideal. They have a slightly sweet taste but are also savory and filling. You can add your favorite butter to them and eat them warm or even dip them in some of your favorite meals with sauces.

Ingredients

  • 2 sweet potato
  • 1 cup milk divided
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoon baking powder
  • 2 teaspoon salt
  • 12 tablespoons cold unsalted butter cut into pats

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Prepare two baking sheet with parchment paper or use a baking stone.
  2. Scrub and prick the sweet potato with a fork several times. Wrap in a paper towel. Place in a microwave-safe bowl and cook in the microwave for 5 minutes. If not soft, heat again for 30 seconds. Allow the potato to cool enough to touch and then remove the skin. Mash the potato with a fork.
  3. Add 2/3 cup of the milk to the potato and stir well.
  4. In a food processor, pulse together the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add the butter and pulse until the mixture resembles coarse meal. Add the sweet potato mixture and pulse just enough to combine.
  5. To the mixture, add the remaining milk a little at a time until all the flour is moistened and the mixture comes together.
  6. On a lightly floured surface, turn out the dough fold 2 or 3 times. Pat the dough out until ½ inch thick.
  7. Cut the dough with a 2 to 2 ½ inch round biscuit cutter. Combine scraps to make additional biscuits.
  8. Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 12 to 14 minutes or until light golden brown.
