Ingredients You Will Need to Make the Casserole

If you are interested in making this wholesome Big Family Sausage, Egg, and Cheese Tater Tot Casserole, you should have the following ingredients:

  • Eggs. Use about 16 eggs to ensure that you have enough for everyone. Here are more creative ways to have eggs for breakfast!
  • Sausage. Cook four pounds of sausage in a saucepan until brown and crumble it before adding it to the casserole.
  • Cheddar Cheese. You will sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the eggs, tater tots, and sausage.
  • Tater Tots. Use two bags of tater tots from the freezer section.

You will also need salt, pepper, milk, and onion powder. You will not need many ingredients to make a flavorful breakfast for the family.

Which Type of Sausage Should I Use?

Use any breakfast sausage that you would normally prepare with eggs and other breakfast foods. It does not matter if you use pork, turkey, or beef sausage, as long as it is what you and your family enjoy the most.

Do I Have to Use Cheddar Cheese?

Cheddar cheese is a fantastic addition to the Sausage, Egg, and Cheese Tater Tot Casserole. It melts perfectly over the other ingredients, adding even more flavor to the large family meal. However, if you are not a fan of cheddar cheese, you can replace it with a different type of cheese, such as Colby Jack, American, or Cooper cheese. It is fine to use a combination of cheeses, such as cheddar cheese and mozzarella, too. Whatever cheese you use, just be sure to add this delicious casserole to your large family menu!

What Else Can I Add to the Casserole?

The casserole is tasty with the sausage, eggs, cheese, and tater tots, but you can add a few other ingredients to enhance the flavor of the dish. You might want to add baby spinach, diced green peppers, or even diced tomatoes into the casserole dish with your eggs and cheese. If you want to make the casserole even meatier, feel free to add pieces of bacon or ham to go with the sausage.

Do You Have Other Tater Tot Casseroles to Try?

Yes! I have lots of other tater tot casseroles that taste great and are easy to make! I have a Breakfast Tater Tot Casserole that’s packed with ham, tots, and cheese. My Chicken Tater Tot Casserole is filled with yummy chicken, cream of chicken, cheese, veggies, and sour cream. This Tater Tot, Egg, and Cheese Pizza taste great and cooks up easy on a sheet pan. My Large Family Beef Tater Tot Casserole is seasoned well with onions, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, cream cheese, peas, carrots, and more. Finally, my Slow Cooker Taco Tater Tot Casserole (that’s right I said Taco!) is simple to make because the slow cooker does all the work. Plus it has great flavor!

How Can I Freeze It?

If you decide to make the casserole in advance to eat for breakfast at a later time, you can cover the casserole dish with aluminum foil and stick it in the freezer. Once you freeze it, you can keep it in the freezer for a maximum of three months. When you would like to prepare it, let it thaw in the fridge overnight before placing it in the oven and baking it without the foil on top. I have lots of breakfast freezer meals so be sure to check them out!
