These meatballs gyros are made with fresh ingredients to provide a flavorful dining experience for you and your loved ones. I’m going to teach you how easy it can be to make this new twist on your favorite classic dish. Oh friend, trust me- this recipe is so easy to make! And because this recipe also uses the sheet pan, your prep is going to be easy!

Ditch the traditional meatball dinner and prepare this recipe for Sheet Pan Meatball Gyros. The recipe consists of flavorful ingredients such as ground beef and bell peppers and then added homemade Tzatziki sauce and even a cuccumber salad as a side! And because it’s made for a large family, your whole crowd will be fed! You’re going to learn how to create savory meatballs with that classic Gyro flavor.

Even picky eaters will love these tasty meatballs. Once you try this recipe, your loved ones will likely ask you to stick to this one whenever you have a craving for those restaurant style classic Gyros!

What Do I Need For This Meal?

For roasted vegetables:

  • 3 red bell peppers, seeded and sliced
  • 1 large red onion, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

For the meatballs:

  • 3.5 pounds lean ground beef
  • 3 cups dry bread crumbs
  • 3 eggs
  • ¼ cup finely chopped parsley
  • ½ cup finely grated red onion
  • 1 ½ teaspoon garlic powder or 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

For the Tzatziki sauce:

  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • ½ English cucumber, shredded and drained well
  • 1 lemon, juiced
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder or 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons fresh dill, snipped
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

For the gyros:

  • Greek cucumber salad
  • Warm pitas
  • Crumbled feta cheese

How Do I Make Greek Meatballs For Gyros Sheet Pan Recipe?

While your oven is pre heating to 400, you’ll need to prepare your large baking sheet with parchment paper (or aluminum foil) and lightly spray it with cooking oil. Next, take your sliced red onions and peppers and place them on the baking sheet in an even layer. You’ll next need to drizzle them with olive oil and season with your salt and pepper. Toss these to combine them well and smooth it all out to be ready for the meatballs.

In your large mixing bowl, toss all of the fixings for the meatballs. You don’t have to worry about being perfect here! Throw them in and mix them together thoroughly. Yo can use a mixer or even your hands for this step. You just really want to make certain everything is mix well.

Grab your cookie scoop (or two lightly greased hands) and stat making your meatballs. Place each meatball onto the top of your sheet pan over the vegetables.

Place in your hot oven for about 8-10 minutes until the meat is cooked all the way though. At this stage you can place them on broil and cook them for some added crispiness and brown-ness, but you’ll want to be careful not to burn.

So while your meatballs are in the oven, go ahead and make your Tzatziki sauce! Super simple, just throw together all of the ingredients in your small mixing bow and stir them together until completely combined! Thats it! Easy peasy! Place your small bowl in the refrigerator and keep it chilled until you’re ready to use.

You can serve your yummy Large Family Sheet Pan Meatball Gyros and your roasted vegetables on warm pita with Greek cucumber salad, Tzatziki sauce, and crumbled feta.

How Do I Store the Meatballs?

When you have leftovers, you can easily pour the contents of your baking sheet into a large food storage container. Be sure to put a lid on the container and place it in the fridge, where you’ll need to keep your Greek Meatballs for Gyros fresh. You can keep them refrigerated for up to four days, reheating them in the microwave, on the stovetop, or back in the slow cooker when you want to eat them. This Large Family Sheet Pan Meatball Gyros Recipe is perfect for those nights when you want to stay home and still enjoy that classic Gyro flavor! Consisting of flavorful ingredients such as ground beef and bell peppers and then with an added homemade Tzatziki sauce. Even a cucumber salad as a side. 


Ingredients

For roasted vegetables:

For the meatballs:

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Prepare a large sheet pan with aluminum foil spritzed with nonstick cooking spray or rubbed with olive oil.

  2. Over the sheet pan, place the vegetables for roasting. Drizzle with olive oil and season with salt and black pepper. Toss to combine and then spread into an even layer.

  3. Place the ingredients for the meatballs in a mixing bowl and beat (or mix with your hands) until completely combined.

  4. Using a large cookie scoop, divide the meat mixture and shape into balls. Place the meatballs on the baking sheet over the vegetables.

  5. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until the meatballs are cooked through. 

  6. If desired, turn on the broiler and cook for an additional 2 to 5 minutes, watching closely.

  7. Meanwhile, mix the ingredients for the Tzatziki sauce until combined. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use.

  8. Serve the meatballs and roasted vegetables on warm pita with Greek cucumber salad, Tzatziki sauce, and crumbled feta.

 

Note: Ground lamb may be substituted for the ground beef or use a combination of the two.

 


Notes

Freezer Instructions: Once they are cooked, cool your Large Family Sheet Pan Meatball Gyros to room temperature. Place them in a freezer-safe container before putting it in the freezer. Don’t forget to add your label! You can leave them in the freezer for at least 3 months before reheating. You can also assemble smaller portions into freezer-safe bags and store them that way to save space. 
To use from frozen: Take your meatballs from the freezer to the refrigerator the day before to thaw completely. When you’re ready to reheat, just follow the slow cooker directions above.
