Ingredients to Use When Preparing the Breakfast Casserole
Before you make the Hearty Breakfast Casserole, make sure you have the right ingredients, including:
- Crumbled Bacon. Make two pounds of bacon and then crumble it into pieces.
- Onion. Chop two medium onions into small pieces.
- Eggs. You will need to use 12 eggs for this breakfast casserole. Another way to have eggs for breakfast.
- Frozen Shredded Hash Brown Potatoes. Be sure to let your frozen potatoes thaw before you use them.
- Cheddar Cheese. Add four cups of shredded cheddar cheese to your casserole.
The only other ingredients needed are butter, shredded Swiss cheese, salt, pepper, and small curd cottage cheese.
Can I Use Any Type of Shredded Cheese?
While this recipe calls for both shredded Swiss cheese and cheddar cheese, you can substitute them for other shredded cheese variations. Some options include sharp cheddar, triple cheddar, and even mozzarella cheese. Add what you like or have available in your fridge to use when making this Hearty Breakfast Casserole.

When freezing the casserole, cover it with a sheet of aluminum foil, wrap it tightly, and then place it in the freezer. You can leave the casserole in the freezer for a maximum of three months. When you want to make it, let it thaw in the fridge overnight and then place it in the oven the next morning to heat it before you begin serving it to your loved ones.

Large Family Hearty Breakfast Casserole

Leave your loved ones feeling fully satisfied with this Large Family Hearty Breakfast Casserole recipe. It is a meaty, cheesy dish consisting of all your breakfast favorites in a single dish.
Ingredients
2 pounds cooked bacon, crumbled
2 medium onions, chopped
1 tablespoon butter
12 large eggs
8 cups frozen shredded hash brown potatoes, thawed
4 cups shredded cheddar cheese
2 ½ cups shredded Swiss cheese
3 cups small curd cottage cheese
Salt and black pepper, to taste
Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Prepare two 9×13 casserole dishes with nonstick cooking spray.

Divide the hash browns between the two casserole dishes.

In a skillet over medium-high heat, cook the onions in butter until the onions are softened. Stir the onions into the hash browns.

Add the bacon, cheddar cheese, and swiss cheese in a layer over the potatoes.

In a large mixing bowl, beat the eggs and cottage cheese until well blended adding in the salt and pepper. Pour it over the casseroles.

Bake for 35 to 40 minutes or until the eggs are completely set.
Notes
How to freeze: Cover tightly with aluminum foil and freeze up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight. If using glass baking dishes, place them on the counter as the oven preheats. Remove the aluminum foil. Follow the above instructions to bake.
