What You Need to Prepare Your Make-Ahead Homemade Pop-Tarts

When you are ready to prepare the Make-Ahead Homemade Pop-Tarts, you should stock your kitchen and have these ingredients:

  • Prepared Pie Crusts. Use prepared pie crusts to make the recipe even easier. You will use these crusts for the shell of your pop-tarts.
  • Fruit jam or preserves. Use your favorite preserves or fruit jam and apply it to the crusts to create the perfect flavorful center. Try my Peach Butter or Apple Butter as a filling.
  • Cornstarch. Mix the preserves or jam with cornstarch before using it as the filling for the pop-tarts.
  • Powdered Sugar. You will use powdered sugar to create the perfect icing drizzle for the pop-tarts. You can also use my Royal Icing Recipe to decorate them.
  • Milk. The perfect way to make the icing is to mix the powdered sugar with some milk before applying the blend to your pie crusts.

With just five ingredients, you can prepare the Make-Ahead Homemade Pop-Tarts for your loved ones. Then be sure to add these to your family menu.

Variations of the Make-Ahead Homemade Pop-Tarts and What to Make with Them

You can make many variations of the Make-Ahead Homemade Pop-Tarts. Choose fruits preserves or jams in different flavors. Some great options include apricot jam, strawberry jam, peach preserves, and blueberry jam. You can add peanut butter and jelly to the crusts, hazelnut spread, cream cheese icing, and all kinds of other great filling options to your crusts before creating these pop-tarts.

To have these as a breakfast meal, you could have them alone or you might make my Cheesy Sausage Croissant Casserole or have them with a Loaded Breakfast Burrito. You might also just add fruit and milk and that makes a great breakfast, too.

Ways to Store Your Make-Ahead Homemade Pop-Tarts

Make-ahead and freeze the Make-Ahead Homemade Pop-Tarts to make sure that you always have some available. You will need to freeze your pop-tarts in a single layer. Do not place them on top of one another. After they become frozen, put the pop-tarts in an airtight storage bag or container, whichever one you prefer to use. You may then keep them in the fridge or freezer to preserve them. When you want to eat one or prepare some for the kids to eat, put the pop-tarts in the microwave or place them in a toaster oven to heat them.

Description

Need the perfect breakfast treat to make for your children? With this Make-Ahead Homemade Pop-Tarts recipe, you can prepare the freshest and most delicious pop-tarts instead of buying them from the grocery store.

Ingredients

  • 8 prepared pie crusts, homemade or refrigerated
  • 2 cups fruit jam, jelly, or preserves
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • ¼ cup milk
  • Sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. In a medium bowl, stir together the jam and cornstarch. Set aside.

  3. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pie crusts. Trim the edges of each circle to create a square. Cut each square into 6 equal rectangles.

  4. On half of the pastry rectangles, spoon about 2 tablespoons of jam. Cover each rectangle with another piece of pastry. Use a fork to seal the edges by crimping them together. Using a spatula, transfer the pastries to the prepared baking sheet.

  5. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes or until lightly golden. Cool completely before icing.

  6. To prepare the icing, whisk the powdered sugar with the milk until smooth. Transfer the icing to a pastry bag with the end snipped. Drizzle over the pastries and immediately add sprinkles, if desired.

  7. Allow the icing to dry completely prior to serving or storing.

  8. To store in the freezer: Freeze pastries in a single layer. Once frozen, transfer to an airtight storage bag or container.

  9. To reheat: Heat in the microwave, toaster oven, or oven until warm.
