Description

Ingredients

 

  • 1 to 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 pounds beef chuck or sirloin, trimmed of fat and cut into bite-size pieces
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 packets brown gravy mix

 


Instructions

  1. Remove the fat from the roast and cut into large bite size pieces.

  2. Place fat in a saucepot, cover with water, and bring to a boil.

  3. Season the roast pieces with the salt and pepper.

  4. Heat a 12 inch skillet over medium-high heat. Add a drizzle of oil. 

  5. Brown the beef in batches, adding oil as needed. The beef does not need to cook through completely.

  6. Transfer the meat to the slow cooker.

  7. In the same skillet with the remaining oil, saute the onions. Transfer the onions to the slow cooker.

  8. Strain the broth boiled from the fatty pieces of meat. Make the brown gravy using the broth with any additional water needed according to package directions. Pour the gravy over the meat and onions.

  9. Cover the slow cooker and cook for 3 to 4 hours on high or 5 to 7 hours on low.
