What You Will Need to Make the Large Family Bread Machine Pretzels

Fortunately, there are not many ingredients you will need to make these yummy Large Family Bread Machine Pretzels. You may even have most of the ingredients on hand. The only exception is if you want to make other versions of these pretzels, which I share more about below.

Brown Sugar: The molasses content in this darker sugar gives the pretzels a nice flavor and helps keep them a bit moister.

Flour: You can use any brand of flour, just as long as it’s all-purpose flour.

Yeast: This recipe calls for bread machine yeast or active dry yeast. Try my other bread machine recipes.

Other than that, it’s just baking soda, salt, and water. You most likely have these on hand already.

How to Make-ahead and Freeze the Large Family Bread Machine Pretzels

These Large Family Bread Machine Pretzels make a great snack to have on hand. If you think you will eat them in the first five days, then you can just store them in an air-tight container on your counter. However, these pretzels are a great snack to keep in the freezer, and pull one out and heat it as you want them.

To store them in the freezer, make them as directed and allow them to cool. Place them on a sheet pan and freeze them. Then wrap them individually and place them in a storage bag or freezer container. You can keep them in the freezer for up to three months. When you are ready to eat them just place them on a sheet pan or in the toaster oven at 300 degrees and heat them for 10-15 minutes. You can also heat them in the microwave by wrapping them in a paper towel first. Depending on your batch and your oven, sometimes they can become a bit soggy or at least not as crisp in the microwave so be sure to try this out first.

Dips to Have with the Large family Bread Machine Pretzels

Pretzels are a great base, much like chips or crackers so they tend to go great with almost any dip or sauce and make a great appetizer. They fit nicely into your lunch menu. Try making one of these easy dips:

You can also look in the dairy case or deli at your local grocery store and find lots of store-bought dips and sauces to have with your pretzels. Dip and sauce suggestions are cheese sauce, caramel, salsa, pizza sauce, and nut butter.

More Variations of the Large Family Bread Machine Pretzels

These Large Family Bread Machine Pretzels are a blank canvas for lots of flavors. For a tasty baked good, try mixing cinnamon and sugar and rolling the dough in them before baking them for a sweet treat. You might also try the same things with cajun, or garlic. Try topping them with your favorite toppings before baking them. Items like pepperoni, black olives, parmesan, jalapeno peppers, or raisins make great additions.

Description

Slightly sweet and very savory, these pretzels are easy to make and taste great. Make them for snacks and just try not to eat them all!

Ingredients

2 cup water (100 degrees)

6 tablespoons brown sugar

6 cups all-purpose flour

3 teaspoon bread machine yeast or active dry yeast

For boiling:

8 cups water

½ cup baking soda

Coarse kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Add the ingredients to the bread machine in the order listed or according to your manufacturer’s instructions.

  2. Prepare using the dough setting. During the first kneading cycle, check to see if the dough has enough water. If more water is needed, add 1 to 2 tablespoons of warm water.

  3. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Prepare a large rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper. Spritz the paper lightly with nonstick cooking spray.

  4. When the dough cycle has completed, punch down the dough and flip out onto a lightly floured surface.

  5. Divide the dough into 8 equal parts. Roll each piece of dough into long even strands, approximately 20 inches long. Twist into a pretzel shape.

  6. In a dutch oven or stockpot, bring the 8 cups of water to a boil. Stir in the baking soda.

  7. Gently drop the pretzels (no more than two at a time) into the boiling water. Boil for 10 to 15 seconds and then remove from the water using a slotted spatula. Place the pretzels on the prepared baking sheet and immediately sprinkle with salt.

  8. Bake the pretzels in the oven for 8 to 12 minutes or until lightly browned.
