The Ingredients You Will Need to Make the Sausage and Apples English Muffin Strata
If you would like to make the Large Family Sausage and Apples English Muffin Strata, you will need the following ingredients:
- English Muffins. You will need 12 of these muffins cut into halves. You can also make my Sausage, Egg, and Cheese English Muffins with any extra muffins and put them in the freezer for later.
- Ground Sausage. Make sure to have two pounds of ground sausage to add to your strata.
- Apples. Remove the core of your apples and dice them into pieces before using them.
- Maple Syrup. Add a touch of sweetness to your strata with maple syrup.
- Eggs. You will need 18 eggs for this recipe. It might sound like a lot, but it makes more than enough servings for everyone in the household.
You will also need half and half, salt, pepper, provolone cheese, and parmesan cheese to complete the recipe.
Which Apples Should I Use in the Recipe?
Use any apples that you have at home. If you are going to the store for apples to use in this recipe, consider getting Granny Smith apples or Honeycrisp apples, both of which have a perfectly sweet taste. You can also choose to get whichever apples are on sale at your grocery store. If you have extra apples leftover, then try making overnight apple pie oats for breakfast the next day, or slow cooker baked apples for dinner tonight.
Which Type of Sausage Do I Need to Use?
Be sure to use ground breakfast sausage when preparing the Sausage and Apples English Muffin Strata. You can use pork, turkey, or beef sausage. It all depends on what you would normally eat and enjoy for breakfast. The brand of the sausage is not important. If you find sausage in bulk or at a good price, be sure to stock up. I have lots of recipes that use sausage like Sausage Baked Ziti, Sausage and Cheese Omelet, Easy Sausage Skillet Gravy, Sausage and Spinach Fried Rice, and many more pork/sausage meals.
Do I Have to Use Provolone Cheese?
The shredded provolone cheese adds flavor and texture to the strata. If you do not like provolone cheese, you can replace it with mozzarella, mild cheddar, or American cheese. You can also add extra cheese if you want to create a cheesier, tastier meal.
Can I Freeze the Sausage and Apples English Muffin Strata?
Yes! You can freeze the Large Family Sausage and Apple English Muffin Strata. If you want to save it for later, wrap it tightly with aluminum foil and place it in the freezer after you bake it. You can reheat it in the microwave or oven when you want to have some. While it is possible to freeze the casserole as a whole, you can also freeze it in individual servings for loved ones to have when they want a quick, easy, and delicious meal for breakfast.
